Buddying up for bequests

Male mentoring programme Big Buddy is one of our many charitable partners looking to harness bequests to secure their future and enable everyday people to leave behind a powerful legacy.

Bequests aren’t just for the rich and famous, they’re made by everyday people who, once they’ve taken care of family and friends, want to leave a gift to their favourite charities in their Will.

We’re aiming to do what no single charity can do alone and make legacy giving a social norm while ensuring every New Zealander is protected by a Will. We support this belief by offering Wills to donors at a more accessible price point and partnering with organisations – such as Big Buddy – who wish to enhance or create bequest programmes.

In the case of Big Buddy, a bequest – or any donations – helps provide the mentoring service for seven to 14-year-old boys without male role models across Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington. The charity partners a fully trained ‘Big Buddy’ with a boy seeking out a positive male role model to provide a helping hand and guide them through their formative years. Research shows big benefits for the mentored boys, including improved confidence, happiness and an ability to relate to others, along with a willingness to try new things.
