Brian Johns Fellowship Trust
Awards for New Zealanders to develop further knowledge and interest in the fields of ear nose and throat medicine and to develop and continue research in these fields within New Zealand or overseas.
Applications are open year round. Please monitor carefully for changes as time-frames for applications may be amended.
Applications are reviewed and supplied to decision makers as and when they are received, and usually not later than within three months of the submission date depending on the availability of advisory parties.

The Hicks Trust
Scholarships for students undertaking the Level 4 Arboriculture and Amenity Programmes at WINTEC this year.
Applications are open from 30 June – 31 July 2024 (extended from 14 July 2024).

New Zealand Companion Animals Trust 
Perpetual Guardian is pleased to be custodian of the New Zealand Companion Animals Trust. The Trust supports projects beneficial to the community, those that provide care and protection to companion animals and projects that directly improve companion animal welfare and urban animal management.  For more information including the types of awards available, and to apply, please visit the New Zealand Companion Animals Trust website.
Closing dates for applications are 1 February and 1 July annually.

Parkinson Memorial Park Trust
Applications are welcomed for the restoration of historic buildings or structures in the Banks Peninsula region. Projects bordering the Banks Peninsula region may be considered.
Please note that grants are paid on the completion of approved purposes. 
Applications are open from 1 July – 27 September 2024. The outcome of grant applications is likely to be provided in November 2024.

Rose Hellaby Medical Scholarship and Grants
In the fields of rheumatic disease, physical medicine and manipulative treatment:

  • Scholarships for New Zealand registered medical practitioners for research and/or post-graduate training and experience overseas.
  • Grants for New Zealand organisations to engage international or New Zealand medical practitioners/specialists to deliver lectures, conduct study courses and/or supervise training and/or research within New Zealand.

Applications are open year round but for the most part are considered by the Board of granting in May. Please monitor carefully for changes as time-frames for applications may be amended.

Spencer Mason Post-Graduate Scholarship in New Zealand Law
Scholarship to support a candidate for a Masters degree or a PhD at the University of Auckland Law School. The degree being pursued must include a thesis on some aspect of New Zealand Law. Applicants must reside in the Auckland Branch Area of the New Zealand Law Society and be graduates in Law of the University of Auckland.
Applications are open year round, with an annual closing date of 31 March. Applications are reviewed in May.

Spencer Mason Travelling Scholarship in Law
Scholarship to support a candidate who wishes to pursue a Masters degree or a PhD at a university outside of New Zealand. Law Graduates living and working within the Auckland Branch Area of the New Zealand Law Society are invited to apply. (Graduates from all New Zealand Universities may apply).
Applications are open year round, with an annual closing date of 31 March. Applications are reviewed in May.

Ted and Mollie Carr Medical Travel Fund
Facilitating international travel by medical practitioners for the purposes of research and education:

  • The Fund’s priority objective is to enable overseas based surgeons and medical practitioners with specialised skills to visit New Zealand for short periods to impart their skills and techniques to New Zealand medical practitioners.
  • The Fund’s secondary objective is to enable specialist New Zealand medical practitioners to travel internationally for short periods to work with other medical practitioners to improve their skills and techniques.

Organisations and individuals meeting one of the above purposes may apply.
Applications are open now and are available to apply for throughout the year.
Applications are reviewed and supplied to decision makers as and when they are received, and usually not later than within three months of the submission date depending on the availability of advisory parties.

The Stout Trust (Estate of John David Stout)
The Stout Trust makes grants for two charitable purposes:

  • To advance and support the preservation of natural or historic sites or amenities, for public enjoyment.
  • To advance and support the creation or preservation of works of art, including visual, audio or literary arts.

Clyde Graham Charitable Trust
In 2024 the Trust welcomes funding applications from environmentally focused organisations for the following purpose:
Salaries for personnel that contribute directly to activities that reduce/tackle carbon emissions. Particular consideration may be given to organisations working collaboratively with other organisations.
Applications are scheduled to open from 2 – 20 September 2024.
Please note funding purposes change from year to year for the Clyde Graham Charitable Trust.

James Searle Say Foundation (Waihi)
The Foundation welcomes funding applications for charitable purposes in Waihi and nearby surrounds. Organisations must be locally based with a strong grassroots focus in Waihi. If you are not sure whether your organisation qualifies, please contact [email protected].

Jeanne Mary Webb Charitable Trust
For the activities of the First Church of Christ Science Christchurch, the Patricia A Fleming Fund and education within the Christian Science Church.
Applications are scheduled to open from 5 August – 23 August 2024.

Legacy Performing Arts Trust Palmerston North
Representing the Evelyn Rawlins Arts Trust, Mavis & Beatrix Francis Arts Trust, Molly Atkinson Arts Trust.
For performing arts purposes relating to dance, theatre, music or artistic performance within the City of Palmerston North.
Schools are not eligible to apply in this funding round.Roy & En

Merton Trust
For the promotion, learning and encouragement and performance of music of a classical or light classical nature including instrumental, vocal, opera, light opera, musicals and musical theatre within a radius of 10 kilometres from the Papakura District Council Chambers (now the Papakura Local Board Office), 35 Coles Crescent, Papakura.
Applications are scheduled to open from 5 August – 23 August 2024.

New Zealand Nursing Fund
Scholarships to support nurses, particularly in the continuation of their training and learning. Preference will be given to nurses who are:

  • Based in Wellington Central hospitals – particularly cardiac nurses advancing their expertise in cardiac nursing
  • Based in the Taranaki district of Taranaki Base Hospital, studying in any capacity.

Applications are scheduled to open from 12 August – 16 September 2024.

Roy & Enid Nicol Charitable Trust
The Trust welcomes funding applications for charitable purposes (including educational) within a ten mile (17 km) radius of Te Aroha Post Office. Organisations and individuals may apply.
Applications are scheduled to open from 2 September – 20 September 2024

Russell Henderson Charitable Trust
In 2024 the Trust welcomes applications for grants to support organisations operating in Otago – particularly Alexandra and surrounds – (excluding Southland) for charitable activities well aligned with one of the following three purposes:

  • Critical services – protecting life and keeping people fed, safe and secure. Examples include activities tackling food scarcity, family safety/violence, mental health providers, counselling and rehabilitation services (in the context of addiction), family debt.
  • Education – specifically activities to support mental health and engagement in education (primary and secondary level)
  • Arts and culture – activities that promote arts and culture within Otago.

Applications for small, local focused activities as well as larger projects that potentially have a longer lasting impact will be considered. 
Applications are scheduled to open from 5 August – 23 August 2024.

St Joans Trust
The purpose of the Trust is to promote the care, maintenance, welfare and rehabilitation of elderly persons and to promote stimulation and encourage public interest in the total welfare and health care of elderly persons. In 2024 the St Joans Trust welcomes applications from charitable organisations that focus on one or more of the following three focus areas:

  1. Promoting access to services for elderly through supportive environments, health promotion and disease minimisation and prevention
  2. Improving the wellbeing of elderly socially isolated older people, those experiencing financial disadvantage and those that have barriers to inclusion through social connection
  3. Providing care and support for elderly with complex health and support needs.

Applications are scheduled to open from 1 August – 31 August 2024.

Strathlachlan Fund
The Strathlachlan Fund makes charitable grants that address and change the causes of womens vulnerability. There are two funding streams in 2024:

  1. Grassroots Funding Round. Focuses on changing the causes of womens vulnerability as a local community level.
  2. High Engagement Funding Round. Considers enabling 1 – 2 charitable partners for a multi year relationship with the purpose of creating significant positive change for vulnerable women by taking innovative approaches to identifying long term solutions to current issues facing women in New Zealand.

‘Grassroots’ applications and ‘High Engagement’ expressions of interest are both scheduled to open from 2nd September – 20th September 2024.

T M Hosking Charitable Trust
In 2024 the Trust welcomes applications from charitable organisations working in the Greater Auckland region that work in one (or more) of the following areas:

  • Child care (charitable purposes only, for example, advancing health of children, meeting charitable needs of children).
  • Drug dependency
  • Alcohol abuse

Applications are scheduled to open from 5 August – 23 August 2024.

Alexander & Gladys Shepherd Scholarships Trust
Applications are welcomed from persons in the Taranaki Province who wish to become farmers or work in the rural sector on the land and are under the age of 21 years at the commencement of their studies. Scholarships are for the purpose of obtaining further education or training which would be useful to them in farming pursuits or the attainment of a university degree in agriculture. This round is for secondary school students intending to pursue their first year of education/training.
Students undertaking rural financial courses will be considered, providing they are also undertaking agriculture or horticultural studies.
These scholarships are not open to students undertaking veterinary science.
Applications are scheduled to open from 2 September – 4 October 2024.

CHBC Fine Arts Scholarship (Jessie O’Marshall Arts Legacy)
Scholarships to support Central Hawke’s Bay College pupils pursuing a course of study in or more of the fine arts at a recognised school of art in New Zealand. Past pupils of colleges within the coastal Bay of Plenty area may also be considered.
Applications are scheduled to open from 2 September – 20 September 2024.

Frank Sydenham Scholarships
Scholarship(s) to enable students to undertake bachelor or post-graduate level studies in horticulture or agriculture or forestry (or related subjects).
Preference will be shown to students from within the statutory boundary of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council, or students from outside that region who intend to utilise the outcome of their studies in the Bay of Plenty region or neighbouring areas.
Preference will be shown to students wishing to undertake post-graduate study
Applications are scheduled to open from 2 September – 27 September 2024.

Teviot Valley Education Trust
Scholarship applications for residents of the Teviot Valley area for the purpose of supporting educational endeavours. To be eligible, applications must be resident (or past resident) of the Teviot Valley area (10 kilometres either side of the bed of the Clutha River between Shingle Creek and Raes Junction). No restrictions apply on the educational level or subject matter.
Applications are scheduled to open from 2 – 20 September 2024.

William Chick Scholarship Trust
Scholarship(s) to enable post-graduate study in architecture in New Zealand or overseas. To be eligible, applicants must be graduates of the Auckland University School of Architecture or other tertiary institutions in the area North of an East West line beginning at Huntly providing a course of study for a professional qualification in the practice of Architecture.
Applications are scheduled to open 2 – 20 September 2024.

St Joans Trust

Updates to Application Rounds

A D Hally Estate
Historically the A D Hally Estate has held two funding rounds per year. In future (including 2024), only one funding round will be held. The next funding round is scheduled to open in approximately March/April 2025 and will welcome applications for charitable purposes that benefit the people of South Canterbury.

Alexander Harold Watson Charitable Trust
In 2024 the Trust welcomes funding applications from arts organisations within the following focus areas:

  •  Market/audience development, with particular consideration given to organisations collaborating.
  • Capacity building, for example developing sustainable funding models, systems advancement.

Originally scheduled for September, this application round will now open from 7 – 25 October 2024.
Please note funding purposes change from year to year for the Alexander Harold Watson Charitable Trust.

Bill Brown Charitable Trust
It is yet to be confirmed if this funding round will open in 2024. Please check back again soon.
Considers applications for charitable or educational purposes or institutions within 16kms of the Wellington General Post Office.

Clyde Graham Charitable Trust

Cranleigh Harper Barton Cultural Trust
This Trust is scheduled to open for funding applications in 2025.
This Trust considers applications from charitable organisations (usually every two years) with preference given to those in the Canterbury area and/or supporting arts and culture.

Farina Thompson Charitable Trust
The Farina Thompson Charitable Trust has changed to an invitational process, prioritising organisations identified by the settlor.

Hi-Tech Foundation: Leading Light Scholarships – He Whetū Mārama Ngā karahipi
This scholarship process is now managed directly by the Hi-Tech Foundation. For more information see the Hi-Tech Foundation website

John T Gibson Trust Scholarships
These scholarships are expected to open next in 2025, for Taranaki Secondary School students commencing an agricultural or veterinary science course at university.

Kathleen Spragg Agricultural Research Fellowship
The Kathleen Spragg Agricultural Research Fellowship will not be opening for applications in 2024. Please check back again in 2025.
Research and development fellowships, the outcome of which provide a demonstrable benefit to the pastoral industry of New Zealand.

Kathleen Spragg Agricultural Research Trust Awards
Applications are currently closed. Applications are likely to be opened in February 2025 for review in the second quarter of 2025. Please monitor for updates.
Research and development awards, the outcome of which provide a demonstrable benefit to the pastoral industry of New Zealand. Funding is for purposes relating to travel for research and development in soils, plants and animals and related areas to the pastoral industry. Applications are accepted from organisations, as well as individuals (scientists, technicians, advisors, consultants and/or students holding relevant tertiary qualifications).
Applications are reviewed and supplied to decision makers usually no later than within three months of the submission date depending on the availability of advisory parties.

LIANZA – SLANZA Tertiary Grants
No further grant rounds are likely to be held for this Fund.
For indigenous knowledge management, library and information studies qualifications at selected tertiary institutions. 

Olivia Spencer Bower Foundation – Art Award
This Foundation is now scheduled to open for award applications in 2025.
A 12 month award to support an emerging New Zealand artist (specifically, a painter or sculptor showing promise).  Preference may be given to artists based in Canterbury or with an artistic connection to Canterbury.

Parkinson Memorial Park Trust

Scientia Cinema Archive Fund
This funding opportunity is currently closed for funding applications. It is not likely to be open again in 2024.
Established to encourage the use and growth of the New Zealand film archive Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision.

Strathlachlan Fund
The Strathlachlan Fund will be opening for both Grassroots and High Engagement funding rounds in September 2024. 
Established to change the causes of womens vulnerability.

Trimble Agricultural Research (Travel) Fellowship
It is yet to be confirmed if this funding round will open in 2024. Please check back again soon.
For the purpose of supporting overseas travel for scientists in agricultural research. 

Vernon Willey Trust
