A D Hally Estate (Round One)
The A D Hally Estate welcomes funding applications for charitable purposes that benefit the people of South Canterbury.
Applications are open from 25 March – 19 April 2024.

Brian Johns Fellowship Trust
Awards for New Zealanders to develop further knowledge and interest in the fields of ear nose and throat medicine and to develop and continue research in these fields within New Zealand or overseas.
Applications are open year round. Please monitor carefully for changes as time-frames for applications may be amended.
Applications are reviewed and supplied to decision makers as and when they are received, and usually not later than within three months of the submission date depending on the availability of advisory parties.

Dietetics Association of NZ Scholarships – Activity and Nutrition Aotearoa (ANA Scholarships)
Supporting postgraduate study in indigenous public health. The awards focus on mahi that will enhance Māori, Pacific, and other high priority communities in Aotearoa. Applicants must be NZ registered dietitians and members of Dietitians NZ and/or Te Kahui Manukura o Kai Ora.
Applications are open from 4 March – 7 June 2024.

Dietetics Association of NZ Scholarships – Neige Todhunter Postgraduate Scholarships
Supporting postgraduate study in nutrition and dietetics. The awards focus on mahi that will enhance Māori, Pacific, and other high priority communities in Aotearoa. Applicants must be members of Dietitians NZ.
Applications are open from 4 March – 7 June 2024.

Dietetics Association of NZ Scholarships – NZDA Travel and Conference Scholarships (Education Trust Award)
Supporting professional development or advancement in an area related to dietetics, including research. That may be via work or study, attendance at conferences, or related activities in New Zealand or overseas. Applicants must be members of Dietitians NZ with a minimum of three years work experience as a dietitian (excludes student members).
Applications are open from 4 March – 7 June 2024.

New Zealand Companion Animals Trust 
Perpetual Guardian is pleased to be custodian of the New Zealand Companion Animals Trust. The Trust supports projects beneficial to the community, those that provide care and protection to companion animals and projects that directly improve companion animal welfare and urban animal management.  For more information including the types of awards available, and to apply, please visit the New Zealand Companion Animals Trust website.
Closing dates for applications are 1 February and 1 July annually.

Onuku Maori Lands Trust
For those studying full time or part time at a tertiary institute or university who are an owner or direct descendant of a current owner of the Onuku Maori Lands Trust or a beneficiary of a whanau trust.
Applications are open from 1 February – 5 April 2024.

Otama Marere Trust
For those studying full time at a tertiary institute or university who are an owner or direct descendant of a current owner of the Otama Marere Trust or a beneficiary of a whanau trust.
Applications are open from 1 February – 5 April 2024.

Rose Hellaby Māori Education Fund
Three types of scholarships are available:

  1. For Year 9 students of Māori descent undertaking secondary education in New Zealand who have demonstrated financial need, academic ability and aptitude. Applications are managed by the Māori Education Trust which can be visited here. The closing date for applications is 31 March 2024.
  2. Tertiary scholarships for undergraduate students of Māori descent. Priority may be given to STEM learning pathways. Applications are managed by the Māori Education Trust which can be visited here. The closing date for applications is 31 May 2024.
  3. Tertiary scholarships for postgraduate studies Māori descent. Priority may be given to STEM learning pathways. Applications are managed by the Māori Education Trust which can be visited here. For a postgraduate scholarship application form, please email [email protected]. The closing date for applications is 30 April 2024.

Robert C Bruce Charitable Trust
For afforestation projects of public land. Two types of grants are available:
– Project grants (for organisations) for afforestation projects on public land
– Research grants (for individuals) for research directly related to forests and afforestation.
Applications are open on 22 January 2024 and close on 29 March 2024 or earlier if sufficient applications well aligned to the funding objectives are received. For this reason, please submit your application as soon as possible.

Rose Hellaby Medical Scholarship
Scholarships for registered medical practitioners for research and/or post-graduate training and experience in rheumatic disease, physical medicine and manipulative treatment overseas. Applications are open year round but for the most part are considered by the Board of granting in May. Please monitor carefully for changes as time-frames for applications may be amended.

Spencer Mason Post-Graduate Scholarship in New Zealand Law
Scholarship to support a candidate for a Masters degree or a PhD at the University of Auckland Law School. The degree being pursued must include a thesis on some aspect of New Zealand Law. Applicants must reside in the Auckland Branch Area of the New Zealand Law Society and be graduates in Law of the University of Auckland.
Applications are open year round, with an annual closing date of 31 March. Applications are reviewed in May.

Spencer Mason Travelling Scholarship in Law
Scholarship to support a candidate who wishes to pursue a Masters degree or a PhD at a university outside of New Zealand. Law Graduates living and working within the Auckland Branch Area of the New Zealand Law Society are invited to apply. (Graduates from all New Zealand Universities may apply).
Applications are open year round, with an annual closing date of 31 March. Applications are reviewed in May.

Ted and Mollie Carr Medical Travel Fund
Facilitating international travel by medical practitioners for the purposes of research and education:

  • The Fund’s priority objective is to enable overseas based surgeons and medical practitioners with specialised skills to visit New Zealand for short periods to impart their skills and techniques to New Zealand medical practitioners.
  • The Fund’s secondary objective is to enable specialist New Zealand medical practitioners to travel internationally for short periods to work with other medical practitioners to improve their skills and techniques.

Organisations and individuals meeting one of the above purposes may apply.
Applications are open now and are available to apply for throughout the year.
Applications are reviewed and supplied to decision makers as and when they are received, and usually not later than within three months of the submission date depending on the availability of advisory parties.

Whakapaupakihi 6 & 7 Trust
For those studying full time or part time at a tertiary institute or university who are an owner or direct descendant of a current owner of the Whakapaupakihi 6 & 7 Trust or a beneficiary of a whanau trust.
Applications are open from 1 February – 5 April 2024.

Upcoming Funding Rounds for Organisations

Unless otherwise noted, all applicants must ensure they are registered as a user on the Perpetual Guardian Funding Hub. This will enable you to view the application form and apply for funding when applications open.  You are able to register as a user before applications open (recommended).

Bay of Plenty Community Legacy Fund
Applications are welcomed from charitable organisations domiciled in Mount Maunganui and Tauranga. Educational based requests particularly from Mount Maunganui may be given preference.
Applications are scheduled to open from 1 April – 26 April 2024.

Estate of George Sevicke Jones
The focus area of funding for this round is yet to be determined. Please check back again soon for more details.
Applications will be invited from organisations operating in Christchurch and Timaru only. 
Applications are scheduled to open from 20 May – 7 June 2024.

Estate of Gordon Lindsey Isaacs
For the relief of poverty, the advancement of education or religion, or any other matter beneficial to the Palmerston North & Manawatu Community.
Applications are scheduled to open from 1 April – 26 April 2024.

Eva & Harold Wilson Charitable Trust
For charities involved in the care and welfare of elderly poor persons in the district of Canterbury.
Applications are scheduled to open from 6 May – 24 May 2024.

Gladys Howey Charitable Trust
Applications are considered for charitable purposes relating to the welfare, care and treatment of animals, including:

  • programmes that educate children on the welfare of animals, particularly domestic pets (and especially cats)
  • activities that encourage news media and publicity activities relating to pets as companions and their welfare
  • activities that promote the prevention of cruelty to domestic animals.

Applications are scheduled to open from 6 May – 24 May 2024.

Guy Anson Waddel Charitable Trust
To support charitable purposes in the Southland area, particularly Invercargill and Bluff and with particular preference to senior citizens.
Applications are scheduled to open from 1 April – 26 April 2024.

James Maxwell Heron Charitable Trust
For charitable purposes in Kaiapoi and surrounding districts (excludes Christchurch metropolitan area).
Applications are scheduled to open 6 May – 24 May 2024.

Kingdom Foundation
For charities supporting disability, social services, education and religious activities in the Manawatu, Horowhenua & Hawke’s Bay regions.
Applications are scheduled to open from 1 April – 26 April 2024.

Longmuir Trust
Applications are welcomed from organisations providing for children facing disadvantages due to disability.  Priority will be given to applications where there is involvement with horses/hōiho.
Applications are scheduled to open from 1 April – 26 April 2024.

Margaret & Huia Clark Trust
For charitable, medical, educational or benevolent organisations for charitable work in the Rotorua City or District.
Applications are scheduled to open from 1 April – 26 April 2024.

South Canterbury Trusts: Incorporating the A & R Edgar South Canterbury Trust and The General Charitable Fund South Canterbury
For charitable purposes in South Canterbury
Applications are scheduled to open from 1 April – 26 April 2024.

Southland Care and Welfare Trusts
Encompassing the Peter H McMillan Legacy Fund, the Vernon Hall Trust Fund and the W Duncan Bickley Trust Fund.
Applicants submit one application to be considered by the three contributing Trusts.
For charities operating in Southland (including Invercargill and Wallace) who focus on ‘the care and welfare of infants* or of the aged or of persons suffering from any physical or mental disability or infirmity.’
*Infants is defined as ‘baby and child under the age of 7 years; persons under the age of 21 years’.
Applications are scheduled to open 6 May – 24 May 2024.

University of Auckland – School of Medicine Scholarships
Scholarships for students studying at the University of Auckland School of Medicine. Priority will be given to applicants that illustrate financial/personal hardship and integrity.
Applications are scheduled to open from 1 April – 26 April 2024.

University of Auckland – Students of English Scholarships
Scholarships for students pursuing a relevant English qualification at the University of Auckland (Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts or higher qualifications) at the University of Auckland. Priority will be given to applicants that illustrate financial/personal hardship and integrity.
Applications are scheduled to open from 1 April – 26 April 2024.

Alan Rosoman Charitable Trust
To enhance, promote and maintain public facilities within reserves and national parks in New Zealand, including areas managed by the Department of Conservation. Special consideration is given to Tongariro National Park, Kaimanawa Forest Park, Ruahine Forest Park and the Northern end of Tararua Forest Park (particularly close to Manawatu Gorge). Charitable purposes that improve the experience of visitors will be considered, for example, signage, information, shelter, facilities, predator control, re-vegetation.
Applications are scheduled to open in June 2024.

Teviot Valley Education Trust
To enable further education for New Zealand residents within the Teviot Valley area (within 10 km either side of the bed on the Clutha River between Shingle Creek and Raes Junction, Central Otago).
Applications are scheduled to open in September 2024.

Bill Brown Charitable Trust

Considers applications for charitable or educational purposes or institutions within 16kms of the Wellington General Post Office.

Cranleigh Harper Barton Cultural Trust
This Trust is scheduled to open for funding applications in 2025.
This Trust considers applications from charitable organisations (usually every two years) with preference given to those in the Canterbury area and/or supporting arts and culture.

Farina Thompson Charitable Trust
It is yet to be confirmed if this funding round will open in 2024. Please check back again soon.

Hi-Tech Foundation: Leading Light Scholarships – He Whetū Mārama Ngā karahipi
This scholarship process is now managed directly by the Hi-Tech Foundation. For more information see the Hi-Tech Foundation website
For the career development and advancement of technology students.

John T Gibson Trust Scholarships
These scholarships are expected to open next in 2025, for Taranaki Secondary School students commencing an agricultural or veterinary science course at university.

Kathleen Spragg Agricultural Research Fellowship
It is yet to be confirmed if this funding round will open in 2024. Please check back again soon.
Research and development fellowships, the outcome of which provide a demonstrable benefit to the pastoral industry of New Zealand.

Kathleen Spragg Agricultural Research Trust Awards
Applications are currently closed. The next round of applications will likely be opened in the second quarter of 2024. Please monitor for updates.
Research and development awards, the outcome of which provide a demonstrable benefit to the pastoral industry of New Zealand. Funding is for purposes relating to travel for research and development in soils, plants and animals and related areas to the pastoral industry. Applications are accepted from organisations, as well as individuals (scientists, technicians, advisors, consultants and/or students holding relevant tertiary qualifications).
Applications are reviewed and supplied to decision makers usually no later than within three months of the submission date depending on the availability of advisory parties.

LIANZA – SLANZA Tertiary Grants
No further grant rounds are likely to be held for this Fund.
For indigenous knowledge management, library and information studies qualifications at selected tertiary institutions. 

Margaret & Huia Clarke Trust
Recently confirmed – the Margaret & Huia Clarke Trust will be opening for applications in the first half of 2024
For charitable, medical, educational or benevolent organisations for charitable work int he Rotorua City or District.

Olivia Spencer Bower Foundation – Art Award
This Foundation is now scheduled to open for award applications in 2025.
A 12 month award to support an emerging New Zealand artist (specifically, a painter or sculptor showing promise).  Preference may be given to artists based in Canterbury or with an artistic connection to Canterbury.

Parkinson Memorial Park Trust
It is yet to be confirmed if this funding round will open in 2024. Please check back again soon.
For the restoration of historic buildings or structures in the Banks Peninsula region. Projects bordering the Banks Peninsula region may be considered.

Roger Wait and Norah Wait Charitable Trust
It is yet to be confirmed if this funding round will open in 2024. Please check back again soon.
The Trust welcomes applications for heritage projects in the Canterbury region.

Scientia Cinema Archive Fund
This funding opportunity is currently closed for funding applications. It is not likely to be open again in 2024.
Established to encourage the use and growth of the New Zealand film archive Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision.

Trimble Agricultural Research (Travel) Fellowship
It is yet to be confirmed if this funding round will open in 2024. Please check back again soon.
For the purpose of supporting overseas travel for scientists in agricultural research. 

Vernon Willey Trust
