Perpetual Guardian Foundation
In 2015, we launched the Perpetual Guardian Foundation (the Foundation), a charitable entity designed to make giving accessible for everyone. It is exclusively focussed on New Zealand. The Foundation is the only offering of its kind in the local market, is innovative in structure (to minimise fees and maximise impact) and draws on over 130 years of grant-making experience. The Foundation provides options that are flexible, enable collective impact and more strategic grant-making.
How can you get involved
- Contribute to the General Fund – A flexible fund focused on greatest need in the New Zealand community at any given time to maximise impact. This flexibility will ensure the fund remains relevant in 10, 20, 30 years and beyond. Decision making is managed by our Advisory Board - Andrew Barnes (business owner and philanthropist), Dame Diane Robertson (experienced not-for-profit leader and knowledgeable in evaluation) and Liz Gibbs (significant experience across philanthropy, business and charity sectors).
- Contribute to an existing Sub-Fund, such as the GICI Fund (the Gastro-intestinal Cancer Institute which focuses on clinical research and raising the profile of this type of cancer) or the Environmental Fund (focused on local environmental and conservation projects). Contact us for a current list of existing Sub-Funds.
- Start your own Sub-Fund (minimum of $50,000) in your particular area of interest. Whether you are passionate about access to housing for those on the margins of society, access to education, the NZ environment, arts and culture or wish to support a specific charity. You can create an enduring legacy via the Foundation.
A different approach
The focus of the General Fund will evolve with time, based on the key issues and needs facing New Zealanders. The Fund acknowledges that we are facing significant social and environmental challenges in this country. If we wish to see different outcomes, we must try different approaches.
